A pulley, with its simple design, is a common device that helps make work easier. Your class will explore this concept by building several types of pulleys – fixed; movable; and block and tackle. Then they’ll get a firsthand look at how pulleys work by studying the direction of the load and the input and output force for each kind of pulley. Your students will also explore the relationship between the number of pulleys used and the amount of force needed to lift a load.
