EmbeddedBlue Transceiver AppMod 
The EmbeddedBlue Transceiver AppMod provides standard Bluetooth connectivity for BASIC Stamp applications without the need for detailed Bluetooth knowledge. Engineers, educators, hobbyists, and OEMs can take advantage of advanced wireless connectivity with this easy to use module. Note: Free technical support is provided when used with microcontrollers that Parallax advertises. Other processors are not supported.

The communication potential with Bluetooth is rather amazing when compared to proprietary RF, especially with the proliferation of Bluetooth enabled hardware devices. The documentation includes a detailed overview and sample source code for EmbeddedBlue projects with the Basic Stamp 2 series, including interfacing to standard Bluetooth devices.

    Technical Specifications include:
  • Frequency: 2.4 GHz FHSS (Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum)
  • Transmit Power: 4dBm (max) class 2 operation
  • Open field range: 300 feet
  • Bluetooth: Compliant with the v1.1 standard
  • Receiver Sensitivity at 0.1% BER: -85dBm

The maximum transmission power of the EmbeddedBlue module is 4 dBm which corresponds to 2.5mW. The actual power will vary from about 0.5mW up to 2.5mW depending on distance and interference. The EmbeddedBlue module reduces its transmission power to the minimum level that will keep a strong solid signal. This allows the module to conserve power when located in close proximity to the other radio. The functions for converting between transmission power expressed in dBm and mW :
dBm = log10 (mW)*10
mW =10^(dBm/10)
