Designed as a true-to-life represenation of a mini functioning green roof. The Assemble & Learn Green Roof Model offers the opportunity to learn how a green roof is built and what environmental and ecological benefits it provides when on a commercial building or school. Every aspect of the construction is incorporated in an easy and fun-to-assemble hands-on model. Kids and young adults from ages 10 to 18 will construct a green roof on a simulated commercial flat roof deck, provided, which will then allow them to measure scientific data including membrane temperature, soil, pH, weight bearing capacity as well as a comprehensive understanding of storm water run-off management, considered the most beneficial characteristic of having a green roof installed. In other words, they pour a lot of water on it and watch how little drains off.

Model comes disassembled with photo instruction manual. Estimated assembly time is less than one hour. Model constructed of corrosive resistant aluminum with all edges blunted for safety. Roof membrane, protection fabric and separation fabric all cut to size. Perimeter edging and other metal pieces easily slide together—no tools required. Drainage aggregate (gravel), growth media and seeds for planting in premeasured quantities. A Plexilglas viewing window allows access to inner workings of the green roof. In the center is a roof drain and built-up drain box assembly. Secondary drain is provided at front of model in non-vegetated area with scupper fence to prevent clogging by soil and debris. Water drains to concealed trough and drains to a jug for measuring purposes. Minimal supervision required. Comes with activity suggestions that engage and educate in a whole lot of fun ways.
